REPORTS
DUBLIN NORTHSIDE CURIAE
Exaltata Curia
The Fatima Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady was accepted by sixty- four (64) homes over the last year in a praesidium with five (5) active members and eighty- three (83) auxiliary members. The Fatima Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady is often requested by people suffering from sickness. On Wednesdays during May and October, public Rosaries are prayed in different locations in the parish. In preparation for the Rosaries, parishioners are notified in advance, and an average of eighteen (18) people attended each week this year. Legionaries supported the May Procession and the Corpus Christi Procession in the parish. The main work of another praesidium with eleven (11) active members is home visitation. Most of the homes in Mountview and Blakestown have been visited. The reception on the doorstep is generally positive and welcoming. Legionaries have composed and distributed leaflets about Mass. Miraculous Medals, Rosaries and religious magazines and pamphlets, and information on current times of Masses in local parishes, plus times of Eucharistic Adoration and confession in the Dublin 15 area have been distributed also. Occasionally cases of urgent material needs are encountered, and referrals are made to the local food bank in such instances. Visits to elderly and homebound neighbours are carried out, as well as occasional visits to nursing homes.
Queen of Peace Curia
A non-Catholic man met on street contact will be received into the Catholic Church this November. The first Patrician meeting held at Queen of Peace Curia was well attended. The title was “St. Mother Teresa”. Guest speakers included a Dublin priest who worked with Mother Teresa for five years in India, and two sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, who brought with them a first-class relic of St. Mother Teresa. Recruitment goes hand-in-hand with weekly street contact. A number of new recruits attended their first meeting, including a man from Goa who was very impressed with the Patricians. Members continue their monthly visits to Cuan Mhuire, where they pray and chat with the residents who are developing a great love for the Rosary. Residents are encouraged to contact the Legion of Mary when they complete their programme. Members also volunteer in the Morning Star Hostel. The Curia annual reunion will take place in Nazareth Hall on Friday, 12 December, with entertainment provided by a live band led by a Curia member. All are welcome. The possibility of a multicultural-themed event is also being explored, to welcome the many immigrants in Dublin encountered by legionaries carrying out street contact.
Presentata Curia
A praesidium’s main work is assisting residents in the two hostels. This includes the support of mothers who are separated from their children, and expectant mothers. Residents are encouraged to join in the nightly Rosary. One resident who was very anti-religion now prays the Rosary. Residents are assisted with writing curricula vitae and home economics to help them integrate into life outside the hostel. Specifically, this helped one resident secure a job where previously she had been without income and had no fixed abode. Up to recently, one member gave English lessons to members of the South American community to help them integrate into the local community. A recent praesidium meeting was followed by pizza to introduce and to welcome students of a third level college in Dublin to the Legion of Mary. Street contact on Saturday morning in Dublin resulted in new recruits, and the expression of interest of some in returning to their Faith. Another praesidium’s main works are volunteering in the Morning Star Hostel, carrying out street contact and hosting a book barrow on Saturdays in Dublin city centre, and facilitating the monthly Sodality of the Sacred Heart. Members volunteer in the Men’s Shed also. Four (4) new members took their Legion of Mary promise in the past year, with three (3) people met on street contact having since become full members. The praesidium has plans to contact nursing homes and psychiatric hospitals to offer comfort and encourage people in their Faith.
Porta Coeli Curia
Porta Coeli Curia has fifteen (15) members. Light Fever apostolate took place on Sunday, 2 November in Clontarf. Legionaries offered candles to passers-by outside the Church and in surrounding areas, and a large number of people lit candles and prayed in the Church. Home visitation promoting Enthronement of homes to The Sacred Heart of Jesus is ongoing. Other works include nursing home visitation and Pilgrim Statue apostolate. Holy Communion is taken to housebound parishioners. Miraculous Medals are distributed after explanation of the Miraculous Medal. A non-Catholic, who initially queried why the Miraculous Medal would be for her, accepted it after being told that the Blessed Virgin was Spiritual Mother to peoples worldwide. Many non-nationals expressed gratitude at being given a Miraculous Medal and welcomed into the country.
Veneranda Curia
A praesidium with seven (7) members recently gained a new probationary member from the ranks of the auxiliaries. The main work of that praesidium is home visitation at which legionaries receive a good reception and Miraculous Medals are offered and usually accepted. People encountered are invited to return to Mass and confession, and a leaflet showing the times of Mass and confessions locally is given.
Bethlehem Curia
Monthly street contact at Curia, as recommended by Concilium in January, has continued every month during this Jubilee Year of Hope. Many good contacts have been made. Several hundred flyers were distributed for the annual Anniversary Mass for now Servant of God Frank Duff. A praesidium presented its eightieth (80th) annual report. Its main work is the running of the weekly De Montfort Men’s Club on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. The evening opens with Legion prayers and Rosary. The men are invited to present their petitions. All present pray for absent members and members suffering from illness. There were eight (8) new visitors to the club- which has a membership of twenty- two (22)- in the last year. While attendance fluctuates, there are usually between three (3) and eleven (11) there each week. Some of the men are musicians and they play music for the group. All men bring their different interests to the club, and conversations range from politics to religion to the arts, the environment etc. Tea and sandwiches are served. On the First Friday of every month the praesidium also organises Mass in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and confessions are made available to them also. The men express deep gratitude for the availability of confession and the celebration of Mass in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the First Friday of every month.
Consolata Curia
A Curia Outreach took place in Lusk in September. The parish priest is interested in having a praesidium in the parish and this is planned for the new year. A praesidium reported visitation to four hundred and forty-nine (449) homes, of which two hundred and seventy- six (276) were ‘no replies.’ Members promote Holy Mass, Rosary, Miraculous Medals and the use of Holy Water, the importance of prayer, confessions and Eucharistic Adoration. Parishioners are invited to the Patricians and the monthly Frank Duff prayer group. The Fatima Pilgrim Statue apostolate is carried out. On the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, legionaries recite the Rosary at the grotto every hour from 9.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. with parishioners taking part. A May procession was organised with the assistance of the junior praesidium. Recent titles of Patrician meetings were “How do you serve the Mystical Body of Christ?” which was attended by seven (7), and “The Power of The Rosary” which was attended by twelve (12).
Another praesidium’s works include nursing home visitation, home visitation and visitation of local schools. Some Handbook Reflections
This month’s extract from p.27- 28 in Some Handbook Reflections has been selected as an aid and reminder for all as officers to make preparations to organise the holding of planning meetings for 2026:
——————————————————————————————————————
PLANNING THE YEAR’S PROGRAMME
The following notes are intended as a follow-up to the previous section, with emphasis on the drawing up of a programme for the year so that planning may be more effective. These are offered as suggestions to both praesidia and councils.
PRAESIDIUM: The President might consider having some form of diary in which items discussed at the officers’ planning meeting might be entered and to which attention would be drawn at specific times during the year.
Some examples:
(l) The promotion of the True Devotion to Mary over a certain period;
(2) Likewise with praetorian membership and explanation of the Breviary - its value and manner of recitation;
(3): Highlighting the feasts of the Patrons of the Legion as they occur;
(4) Dates for Exploratio Dominicalis, Praesidium Function in September, Auxiliary Rally;
(5) Preparation of the annual report and deadline for the audit of funds;
(6) Parish functions or events to which the praesidium could lend its support and assistance;
(7) Introduction of new works for example, the Patricians; apostolate to young people;
(8) Follow-up on works;
(9) Dates for certain activities in connection with the works of the praesidium, for example; a Retreat, a Mass for the Sick, a Talk for non-Catholics;
(10) Closing dates for the Peregrinatio Pro Christo.
Each praesidium may have its own particular items for inclusion in the year’s programme.
COUNCIL: The officers might consider drawing up a programme for the year at their planning meeting and list such things as the following:
(1) Dates of Legion Functions: the Acies, the Annual General Reunion, the Annual Outing, a Retreat, (a Congress);
(2) Praesidia (and councils) to report each month;
(3) Praesidia (and councils) to be visited each month;
(4) Deadline for audit of funds;
(5) Parishes (and Dioceses) to be visited each month on the work of Extension of the Legion;
(6) Expiry dates of officerships in praesidia and councils.
Each council will probably have various other items for inclusion in the year’s programme.
It should be of assistance to the members of praesidia and councils to have dates fixed well in advance for Legion functions, etc., however, it should be understood that councils (not just the officers) make the decisions in this regard. It is also desirable that plans drawn up by the officers of a praesidium should be presented and discussed at the praesidium meeting.

Recommendations from Concilium for legionaries throughout the world for Jubilee Year 2025
1. All legionaries (active and auxiliaries) are recommended to take on the Thirty- three (33) Day Preparation for Consecration to Jesus Through Mary proposed by St. Louis- Marie de Montfort during the Jubilee Year 2025. Auxiliaries and active members need to be informed. Concilium has just published a new production of the Thirty- three (33) Day Preparation for Consecration to Jesus Through Mary. Some Councils might wish to carry it out together with their legionaries over the thirty- three (33) day preparation period.
2. All Councils are recommended to carry out some street contact each month for the Jubilee Year to focus on apostolic activity and personal contact and to teach the master/apprentice system of formation.
3. In Dublin, and throughout Ireland, a Jubilee task force will focus on recruitment for the Jubilee Year. Other Councils may wish to follow this recommendation to address the need for Recruitment during the Jubilee Year and address the need for more active members following the covid lockdowns across the world.
4. All are asked to take on the Jubilee Year recommendations.
